The Colson Company of Elyria Ohio was formed in 1917 from the bicycle and tricycle business of the Garford Company. The company offered some of the most striking paint designs ever seen on its Imperial line as well as some unique frame designs on both the Imperial and Commander lines. The Hi Lo was offered in both a 28” single tube and 26” balloon tire version. Colson was the only American manufacturer to offer a two speed transmission in the crank hanger. The two speed is essentially a very simple planetary transmission operated by the shifter mounted on the frame near the head tube. This bike is the full deluxe, 26” balloon tire version featuring a unique headlight, a Klaxon horn, and a rare Delta Nighthawk battery can. Owner: Shawn Sweeney
