Wards Department Store, later Montgomery Wards, like Sears never made any bicycles. They did sell plenty of bicycles though from a variety of manufacturers. The Hawthorne ‘Zep’ was the top-of-the-line offering from Wards in 1937. The bike was manufactured by the H.P. Snyder Company for Wards. The fully equipped Zep featured a tank with horn, headlight, tail light, deluxe Troxel seat, speedometer, and a locking fork to prevent theft. The Zep also used a side mounted kick stand while lower level Hawthornes were still using the drop stands. The Zep was only offered in black and white with red pinstripes. This bike was restored from an original bike and is ridden and enjoyed. Owner: Shawn Sweeney
