The Mercury bicycles were produced by Murray Ohio MFG and had no connection to the Mercury automobiles. Besides the unusual light the ‘Pod’ bikes differed from the standard models in a few different ways. The unusual headlight required a special stem, the kickstand mount was welded in and the pod bikes used different fenders. The pod bikes were offered both with a single light and dual lights. The ‘pod’ also contained the horn and switches for both were on the housing. This is an original paint bike with working horn and light. This is the only pod bike I’ve seen with aluminum fenders and there is some debate about the originality of these fenders on this bike. Because of the matching patina and unique riveted braces I believe this bike came from the factory like this. Owner: Shawn Sweeney
