Frank Schwinn set Arnold, Schwinn & Co. apart from other bicycle manufacturers through innovation beginning in 1933 with the introduction of the balloon tire bicycle. In 1938 Schwinn again revolutionized the bicycle industry with the introduction of both the cantilever frame and knee action spring fork. The 1938-41 Autocycle Deluxe is considered one of the most desirable pre war bicycles and was the top-of-the-line offering from Schwinn. This bicycle is also equipped with a front drum brake which Schwinn called the “Fore Brake” which had been introduced in 1937. It also has the locking fork first introduced in 1936.

The cross bar speedometer housing has buttons for both the horn and a light for the speedometer. The Milsco “pogo” seat has unusual spring arrangement whereby the seat post itself has a long spring inside of it so the seat does not have the traditional seat springs. In addition to the twin Seiss headlights the Autocycle also has a fender “bomb” reflector for night time safety. This bike is original and unrestored except for the tires (original tires stored).
