The Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works located in Fitchburg, Mass. was founded in 1891 to produce firearms and bicycles. Iver Johnson bicycles were produced from 1894 until the start of World War II in 1941. From 1907 to 1915 the company also produced motorcycles. Iver Johnson bicycles were known for their high quality and although the company is probably better known for its firearms they did well
selling bicycles.
The Super Mobike model was first introduced in 1935 and was the top-of-the-line offering from Iver Johnson. The Super Mobike was equipped with high grade or deluxe components such as the saddle, pedals, rear rack, chromium fenders with built in rear reflector, Delta hornlight, and an octagonal tank to hold the batteries to power the hornlight. Ironically at a time when most other manufacturers offered the chain guard as standard this was an extra cost item on the Super Mobike. The bike is also equipped with a period speedometer and a New Departure Two-Speed. This bike is an exceptional original example of an uncommon deluxe bicycle. Owner: Shawn Sweeney
