Monark was better known for its aluminum bicycle such as the Flocycle and Hextube but began experimenting with steel frames in about 1938 with the introduction of the Hawthorne Five Bar. The double bar or ‘super frame’ girls bike is one of the most unusual frames encountered. Monark referred to this style as a “Streamliner” but most collectors refer to it as a ‘loop tail’ for obvious reasons. This bike is fully equipped with a rare twin light set-up, tank with horn, dual springer fork, and ‘butterfly’ parking stand. There are numerous variations of this bike but the “Streamliner” is by far the rarest variety. Owner: Shawn Sweeney
