The Mercury Pacemaker was designed by renowned industrial designer Viktor Schreckengost who designed everything from cab-over trucks to lawn chairs to dinner ware. Variations of this model were made from 1939 when it was introduced as the ‘official bike’ of the New York World’s Fair until 1941. The bikes were manufactured by Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company and distributed through various retailers. The “Mercury” name has no connection to the cars produced by Ford Motor Co.

This bike is a Model 16 full deluxe Pacemaker manufactured in the last year of production. This bike features dual headlights in the tank along with aluminum fenders and a chrome tank, head shroud, chain guard, and rack. This last year model also featured the Stewart Warner “floating” front hub and a functional tail light.  The Mercury tricycle features the unique head shroud to match the bicycles and dates from about 1939.
